What are your career goals?

I strive to be a community-minded and civically engaged physician who builds long-term healing relationships with patients and their families.

What attracted you to the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program?

I was most drawn to the warmth, curiosity, enthusiasm, talent, and diversity of residents and faculty; the program's commitment to being a champion of primary care within both the broader institution of Duke and the Durham community; and Durham's proximity to many of the people and places I love most.

In your opinion, What makes Duke Family Medicine special?

Duke Family Medicine's most valuable asset is its people -- the residents, faculty, staff, and everyone else involved -- who bring a diverse array of life experiences and perspectives, and who share a caring and kindhearted commitment to the health of our patients and families.

What strengths or skills do you have that could be of benefit to the community?

I hope that I can offer a good listening ear, a calming demeanor, and an intimate familiarity with Durham and the surrounding regions.

What are you passionate about?

I'm particularly passionate about reducing health inequities by addressing the social drivers of health (for example, housing, food, and transportation). I also take interest in narrative medicine, or the healing power of personal stories.

What is your hometown?

Chapel Hill, NC

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I enjoy pick-up basketball, drawing and painting (when I have the time), and a variety of outdoor adventures.

What is something interesting that not many people know about you?

In the spring of 2021, I kayaked nearly the entire length of the Cape Fear River, from Durham, NC, to Wilmington, NC -- 180 miles over six days.

So far, what has surprised you most about Duke?

Despite demanding work schedules and a host of personal commitments, the residents really make an extra effort to prioritize each other -- both by helping each other professionally and by creating space for quality after-hours bonding time.
