Elmira Powell is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (B.S. and M.Ed.), Greensboro, NC and Duke University Physician Assistant Program (B.H.S.), Durham, NC. Her seventeen year career as a PA began in college health at the NC A& T State University in Greensboro, NC where she was the first physician assistant to partner with a physician to provide health services to that university community. From there she joined with the Guilford County Public Health Department, also in Greensboro, to staff gynecologic satellite clinics in the four underserved counties of: Stokes, Davie, Davidson and Randolph. After five years of Public Health Service as a clinician, Ms. Powell returned to college health through an appointment as Director of Student Health Services at the NC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC. There she was responsible for facilitating the prevention, maintenance and treatment of wellness related matters not only for college level artists and students enrolled in the high school program. During her tenure she worked to form an alliance with the faculty to enhance student welfare in both the artistic and academic arenas.
Ms. Powell currently works as a provider of gynecologic care both in the office and as a surgical first assistant with Central Carolina OB-GYN in Greensboro, NC. Ms. Powell has pioneered in her office practice a service to women seeking complementary health management options for their life transition issues.
