Durham has been awarded a Culture of Health Prize by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The RWJF report about Durham, “The Durham Way,” highlighted Duke Division of Community Healthpartnerships with Project Access, Partnership for a Health Durham, and community and school clinics funded and staffed by the division.

According to the RWJF website, the Culture of Health Prize “honors communities which place a high priority on health and bring partners together to drive local change.”

Six communities — including Durham; Brownsville, Texas; Buncombe County, N.C.; Spokane, Wash.; Taos Pueblo, N.M.; and Williamson, W.V. — were awarded a no-strings attached $25,000 cash prize in recognition of their accomplishments.
