Name: Woody Bass
Position: Information Services Specialist
Division/Program in department: Physician Assistant Program
Start date: 05/28/19
Where I worked prior to accepting this role: TenPlus Systems, a small technology firm in Raleigh.
What I will be doing in this role: Primarily supporting the faculty and staff of the PA Program with their technology needs, with some overlap supporting the PA students, as well.
What I most look forward to in this role: Getting to know the technology needs of the faculty, staff, and students; providing proactive support and education to make sure they can get their work done efficiently; and discovering new technologies that will make them even more productive.
My first job: My first “job” was at our family-owned restaurant in my hometown of Stantonsburg, NC, where my sister and I waited tables, etc. My first actual paying job was working for S.T. Wooten Construction Co. during the summers of my junior/senior of high school, where we mostly were responsible for installing stone right-of-way markers during the beginning stages of highway construction.
My dream job: I’ve always enjoyed listening to music and thought if I could go back in time, I would have focused on audio engineering.
What I like to do for fun: Spending time with my wife, Meredyth, twin 17-year-olds, Adam and Meghan, and dog, Sammie. Going on hikes (mostly the Appalachian Trail) and concerts with friends. Playing my guitar when the mood strikes (not as much as I’d like).
Favorite musician, movie, TV show, or book: Even though I listen to variety of musical genres, I’m mostly a fan of the rock genre and have been a huge fan of Led Zeppelin since I first heard them as a teen. As long as the music can touch my soul, I’ll listen to it!!
Something my co-workers probably don’t know about me: I’ve hiked over 600 miles on the Appalachian Trail, with the goal of finishing all 2,100+ miles over the coming years.
