Program Partners: Message from School of Medicine

Lloyd Michener, MD

Welcome to one of the most exciting times in health care! With ongoing national health care reform, there is a pressing need for clinicians who can lead the transformation of our medical care system to one that is focused on health, improves the experience of those for whom we care, and delivers better value. We hope and anticipate that many will be anticipate that many will be advanced practice nurses, who use their nursing background and experience to help direct the process of change from within the delivery system, in partnership with our patients and communities. Today, the newest iteration of the Duke-Johnson & Johnson Nurse Leadership Program is designed for advanced practice nurses and their engaged team members with these aspirations and builds on two decades of Duke's effort in leading health care redesign locally, within the state and nationally. The Program aims to provide passionate and skilled health care providers with the skills required to lead efficient and effective change within a rapidly evolving health care system. In addition, the Program aims to build upon and unleash the creative talents of those who have been on the front lines of care and know the inadequacies of our current systems; thus, these providers' daily work becomes an outgrowth of their values and their contributions a manifestation of their beliefs. We hope the Program appeals to you and your health care teams and look forward to partnering with you.
