Kate HolemanName: Kate Holeman

Position: Education Coordinator

Division in CFM: Chairman’s office

Time in this position: 6 years

Years at Duke: 17 years

What I do at work: I am administrative assistant to Justine Strand de Oliveira, DrPH, PA-C, Vice Chair for Education. I coordinate the Prevention Course and Community Health Engagement Day. I have been support to several projects such as the Practical Playbook and AAMC/CDC/Duke webinars.

What I love about my job: The ever-changing levels of my job. It is not boring by any means. I enjoy the team that I work with daily. The team consists of Lara Snyder, Andrea Martin, Meghan Melton, and Dr. Strand de Oliveira. It is a pleasure to work with such thoughtful, energetic, supportive people.

My first job: The first job I ever had was a waitress at the Elks Lodge. At Duke, I was a financial representative in Graduate Medical Education.

My dream job: I couldn’t ask for a better team to work with so I think I have my dream job.

What I like to do for fun: I enjoy spending time with my 11-year-old daughter, Maggie, and my husband, Jamie. We keep pretty busy with soccer, Girl Scouts, church and school. I love to take weekend trips to the beach when we get a chance.

Something my co-workers probably don’t know about me: They pretty much know me. I guess I would love to travel when I retire since we really don’t get away much right now.

Favorite musician, movie, TV show, or book: I love rock music from the ’80’s. “Independence Day,” “Grimm” or “Castle.” “Liza” (it was my favorite book growing up).

Last book I read: Wow, couldn’t tell you since it has been so long. Listened to James Patterson on tape a while back.

What else would you like your co-workers to know about you? Just how much I appreciate all they do to make my job and work life so enjoyable. They truly are amazing at what they do.

What Kate’s nominator said about her:

Even though we don’t work in the same office anymore, I know that she would do anything to help us out if we ask her. She is ALWAYS a team player and goes above and beyond each day to make things run smooth.
