William J. (Terry) Kane, MD
William J. (Terry) Kane, MD, is a Clinical Professor in the Duke Department of Community and Family Medicine.
Dr. Kane received his BS in Biology from the University of Scranton (PA) and his MD with Honors from the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed a residency in Family Medicine at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY.
From 1974 to 1980, Dr. Kane was Chief of the Division of Family Medicine at Duke University. Prior to assuming his position at Duke, he was in private practice in rural New York State. He is a past President of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, past Board member and Treasurer of the Pisacano Leadership Foundation of the American Board of Family Medicine and former member of the Board of Directors of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America.
Dr. Kane has extensive experience in managed care having been Senior Vice President for Medical Delivery for US Healthcare, National Medical Director for CIGNA Healthplans, and Senior Vice President at Independence Blue Cross in Philadelphia.
Dr. Kane also directed the healthcare consulting activities of an investment banking firm, was CEO of an acute care hospital in NJ and Executive Vice President of Operations at Sharp Healthcare, a seven hospital health system in San Diego, CA.
On his return to NC in 1996, Dr. Kane was CEO of two venture capital backed companies in the Research Triangle Park. The companies were sold in 2001 and 2009. He is currently on the Board 0f Directors of the First Flight Venture Center in RTP, NC. FFVC is an incubator for more than 40 start-up companies in RTP.
