Speaker: Dr. Wessam El Ghoul
Brief Bio:
Dr El Ghoul is the current medical director of the emergency department at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. After gaining his medical qualifications at the University of Liverpool in the UK, and completing a combined clinical and research posting, he received an MBChB and MPhil. He relocated back to Sweden to start residency in emergency medicine following this.
His interest in the intersection of medicine, politics and international relations led Dr El Ghoul to also gain a BSc in political science, in parallel to his training in emergency medicine.
As medical director, Dr El Ghoul has implemented the ECPR pathway for the region, developed the trauma referral network and updated disaster and mass casualty preparedness plans.
Through his position as an affiliated researcher at Karolinska Institute, he has now started a major project to assess how civilian led prehospital care in conflict zones can be improved.
