The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at Duke offers a wide range of residency and fellowship programs designed to develop future leaders in healthcare. The department houses two Family Medicine residencies including the original University Program and a Rural-focused program based out of Oxford, NC. The Duke Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency is also in our department where residents earn an MPH from UNC and get rich experience caring for Duke’s >45,000 employees (with Employee Health also being within our department). There is also a research focused residency option via the CARiNG-StARR pathway. Duke prepares physicians to address diverse health needs through leadership, research, and community engagement. Additionally, the department offers fellowships for both physicians and advanced practice providers, covering areas such as health equity, career development, breast feeding medicine, reproductive health, geriatrics, hospice and palliative care, sports medicine, entrepreneurship, and healthcare transformation. These programs combine rigorous academic training with hands-on experience to equip clinicians to make a lasting impact on individual and population health.
