Brian Halstater, M.D., Named Medical Director of Duke Family Medicine

Effective January 1, Brian Halstater, M.D., assumed the role of medical director for Duke Family Medicine. In this role he oversees clinical operations at Duke Family Medicine Center, 2100 Erwin Road.

Since 2014, Halstater has served as medical director of Duke Student Health, and prior to that was program director of the Duke Family Medicine Residency from 2004 to 2014. In addition to his experience and know-how, Dr. Halstater brings to this role his passion for excellence, strong organizational skills, and tireless enthusiasm.

Lorraine Sease, M.D., MSPH, had served as medical director for Duke Family Medicine for the past two years.

While a search is conducted to fill the Duke Student Health medical director role, Melanie Trost, M.D., will serve as interim director. She is a 2004 graduate of the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program and has worked as a provider at Duke Student Health since 2005. Trost led many of Duke Student Health’s key clinical initiatives, such as travel medicine and the treatment of students with eating disorders.
