What are your career goals?

My goal is to practice Family Medicine informed by my background in public health with compassion, inclusion of the underserved, and with an emphasis on evidence-based medicine.

What attracted you to the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program?

I was attracted to the strong and diverse academic nature of the institution, and I have familial ties to Duke and the Triangle Area. But most of all, I was attracted to the generous, kind nature displayed by the residents and those in leadership on interview day.

In your opinion, what makes Duke Family Medicine special?

The people of the program are what make it special! The consideration for residents by program leadership and overall welcoming spirit within the program are truly special and a privilege to experience.

What strengths or skills do you have that could be of benefit to the community?

I am empathetic, open-minded, and committed to practicing medicine in a way that makes others feel seen and heard. I value building relationships with my patients where my care is palpable and allows me to gain an understanding of them and their goals for their health as a collaborative effort.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about evidence-based medicine and solving health disparities by engaging in efforts to advance health equity and health justice.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Hiking, yoga, reading, listening to podcasts, tending to my plants, and playing with my cat and dog!

If you have lived in the area for a while, what is the best part of living in the Durham/Triangle area?

The closeness to family both working at and attending Duke, variety of activities, nature trails, food scene, and proximity to the coast have been the best parts for me so far. There's always something to do and explore!

What is something interesting that not many people know about you?

I studied abroad Xi'an, China during undergrad studying. It opened my eyes to the variety of ways that medicine is practiced in other parts of the world and to Traditional Chinese Medicine, which helped me understand healing from a different perspective.

So far, what has surprised you most about Duke?

I have been surprised by how inviting, welcoming, and helpful everyone has been! It has made the transition to residency much smoother, and the efforts to make us feel that we belong here are truly appreciated.
