What are your career goals?
To become a well-rounded community family physician that provides comprehensive care to patients of all ages. I hope to partner with local community organizations and remain involved in academic medicine through teaching and mentorship.
What attracted you to the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program?
The breadth of opportunities to serve Spanish speaking communities, engage in medical education, and collaborate with community organizations, all while training at a nationally recognized program.
In your opinion, what makes Duke Family Medicine special?
Duke combines the resources of a large academic medical center with a close knit, supportive community. The faculty are deeply engaged in family medicine at the local, national, and global levels.
What strengths or skills do you have that could be of benefit to the community?
I enjoy building meaningful, lasting relationships with patients and colleagues. My experiences in both rural and urban communities, along with my Spanish language skills, help me connect with people from diverse backgrounds.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about caring for Spanish speaking communities, particularly through rural and migrant health. I also enjoy medical education and teaching learners at all levels. Additionally, I am interested in improving care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, especially during the transition from pediatric to adult care.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I love spending time outdoors, either running, hiking, camping, or exploring national parks with my wife. At home, I enjoy caring for my houseplants and spending time with our cats.
If you have lived in the area for a while, what is the best part of living in the Durham/Triangle area?
The diversity of the community, the incredible food scene, and the easy access to local trails, mountains, and coast make it a wonderful place to live.
What is something interesting that not many people know about you?
I've completed the Krispy Kreme Challenge three times, which is running 5 miles, eating 12 donuts, and finishing within an hour!
So far, what has surprised you most about Duke?
The genuine sense of community throughout the program and the incredible amount of expertise among the faculty in primary care.
