What are your career goals?
My career goals include practicing family medicine with a strong focus on lifestyle medicine. I am passionate about helping patients prevent and manage chronic conditions through sustainable changes in areas like nutrition, physical activity, and stress management. I also hope to actively participate in community initiatives that promote healthier food environments and increase access to nutritious options, such as bridging clinical care with broader community health efforts.
What attracted you to the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program?
I knew I wanted to continue my training at the Duke Family Medicine Residency program because of its strong culture of service and its commitment to meeting patients’ needs. This is evident in the community and population health curriculums, which I believe would enhance my development as a primary care doctor. I was impressed by not only the strong academic resources at Duke, but also the robust opportunities to learn the social, psychological, and environmental factors that affect patients and their communities.
In your opinion, what makes Duke Family Medicine special?
The people at Duke Family Medicine are what makes the program so special! The team is so wonderfully diverse in interests, passions, and backgrounds, while also sharing a common passion for excellency in patient care and in addressing health care disparities.
What strengths or skills do you have that could be of benefit to the community?
My desire to continue learning and my personal motivations for mitigating barriers to health care are strengths that I lean on!
What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about using lifestyle medicine and community medicine to improve health by meeting patients where they are. I believe in the importance of working with and learning alongside patients — to understand their unique circumstances, to empower them with practical tools, and to build healthier communities through prevention and sustainable habits.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
Trying new cuisines with loved ones, cooking, baking, reading, and traveling.
If you have lived in the area for a while, what is the best part of living in the Durham/Triangle area?
I am new to the area, but so far, I love the diversity of people, cultures, and food in the Triangle!
What is something interesting that not many people know about you?
I have worked in the food service industry for many years — these experiences allowed me to meet people of all backgrounds and are memories that I cherish.
So far, what has surprised you most about Duke?
I knew Durham was beautiful before moving to the area, but I did not know just how beautiful Duke’s campus and the surrounding areas were until I settled in. One of my favorite experiences thus far has been exploring the Duke Gardens during lunch break with a co-resident.
