What are your career goals?

My current career goals are to practice both broad-spectrum outpatient family medicine and breastfeeding & lactation medicine.

What attracted you to the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program?

I was attracted to the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program’s strong outpatient training, it’s attention to resident wellness, the unique breastfeeding & lactation medicine training opportunities, and the amazing city of Durham.

In your opinion, what makes Duke Family Medicine special?

The people make Duke Family Medicine special. We are a group of individuals who come from very different walks of life but share a passion for both family medicine and providing the best possible care to our patients.

What strengths or skills do you have that could be of benefit to the community?

I am a lactation consultant (IBCLC), a native Spanish speaker, and I have experience volunteering as a birth and postpartum doula. I also gained the privilege of better understanding community-based work after working at a local health equity advocacy organization.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about health equity and removing barriers to accessing infant feeding support.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

My hobbies include soccer, exercising, trail walking, exploring cafes & restaurants, and spending time with loved ones.

If you have lived in the area for a while, what is the best part of living in the Durham/Triangle area?

The Durham community is incredible! It is welcoming and inclusive. No matter what your interests are, if you show up to a community event you will be greeted with enthusiasm. We have delicious mom-and-pop restaurants, and almost anywhere you want to go is only a 15-minute drive away. There are plenty of local walking/hiking trails, and the beach and the mountains are easy to reach by car.

What is something interesting that not many people know about you?

I played soccer in college and continue to play in an adult recreational league in Durham!

So far, what has surprised you most about Duke?

I have loved being part of a relatively small residency program within a large academic institution. It has allowed me to quickly feel at home with my co-residents and faculty while still providing access to all the learning opportunities that come with large academic centers.
