What are your career goals?

My career goal is to practice family medicine while completing a sports medicine fellowship. I want to care for athletes at all levels while providing comprehensive primary care to diverse communities. I hope to work with immigrant and refugee populations and pursue global health opportunities if they align with my career. Long-term, I’m excited by the idea of supporting athletes, potentially even at a national or international level, while staying grounded in community-based primary care and service to underserved populations. I’m committed to learning new skills that align with those goals.

What attracted you to the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program?

Duke Family Medicine stood out for its supportive culture, strong clinical training and mentorship, and opportunities in areas like sports medicine and community care. I was drawn to the people here and felt it was a place where I could grow and pursue my career goals. I was eager to challenge myself in a new learning environment and experience a different place. Overall, it felt like a strong fit for the kind of physician I aim to become.

In your opinion, what makes Duke Family Medicine special?

What makes Duke Family Medicine special to me is its supportive and collaborative culture. I was impressed by the investment of faculty in residents’ growth, both professionally and personally. And the chance to train broadly while exploring interests like sports medicine, and community health, really stood out to me.

What strengths or skills do you have that could be of benefit to the community?

I bring strong communication skills, a habit of careful listening, and the ability to build trust quickly with patients from varied backgrounds. My work in global and community settings taught me to be adaptable, attentive, and mindful of different cultural contexts. I also bring a strong work ethic and a commitment to continuous learning, all of which I use to support patients and contribute to the interdisciplinary teams that I’m a part of.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about building meaningful relationships with patients and helping people stay healthy and active throughout their lives. I’m excited by the opportunity to pursue sports medicine with the long-term goal of working with athletes at all levels, potentially even in elite or international settings. At the same time, I care deeply about serving immigrant, refugee, and underserved communities, and I hope to continue incorporating global health into my career. What motivates me is finding meaningful ways to combine these interests while continuing to learn and serve wherever I can make the greatest impact.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy being active, spending time outdoors running, tennis, pickleball, traveling, and finding great coffee shops wherever I go. I love learning new languages and experiencing different cultures, and I’m always looking for opportunities to broaden my perspective through travel and meeting new people. I’m also a big foodie and enjoy trying new restaurants and cuisines. I enjoy discovering places through their food as much as their history.

If you have lived in the area for a while, what is the best part of living in the Durham/Triangle area?

What I enjoy the most about living in the Durham/Triangle area is that it feels like home. It’s a welcoming community with great food, outdoor activities, and a vibrant growing culture.

What is something interesting that not many people know about you?

I was born and raised in Nepal, but I grew up watching a lot of Hindi movies and shows, so now I can fully understand and speak a little bit of Hindi!

So far, what has surprised you most about Duke?

How collaborative the environment feels and how invested the faculty are in teaching and mentoring. It felt genuinely supportive, not just academically but personally too.
