My research interests previously involved a variety of topics within the field of HEALTH LAW AND HEALTH POLICY. Specifically, I am was engaged in  research interests in medical malpractice policy development, risk management in health administration, legal aspects of death and dying, and comparative Canadian/U.S. health policy. More recently, I previously delving into the interaction of medical practice and substance abuse prevention and treatment. In my capacity as Executive Director of the NC Governor's Institute on Alcohol & Substance Abuse,, Inc., during 1991-97, I directed a public policy research program on a variety of issues ranging from therapeutic innovations to educational needs of primary care providers. After a six month Fulbright teaching assignment in China, I had commenced researching the potential development of "rule of law" in China.  I retired in 2001 from academic activity.
