Primary Care Transformation Fellowship Accepting Applications for Third Cohort

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health is now accepting applications to fill the third cohort of its two-year Primary Care Transformation Fellowship.

The goal of the fellowship, which begins July 1, 2022, is to train physicians and physician assistants (PAs) to lead health care transformation and improve health within their communities and community-based practice settings. The fellowship includes coursework from the Duke University Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Leadership program, primary care preceptor training, a mentored transformation project, and a fellowship seminar series. Fellows will have 25 percent committed time to complete program requirements. Meet the current fellows.

"I felt like I had a lot to learn going into this fellowship. I am already feeling more engrained in the practice and understand my potential to help,ā€ says Maribeth Kuntz, PA-C, a PA practicing at Duke Family Medicine Center in Durham, N.C. ā€œIā€™m starting to build confidence in my transformation into more leadership roles and am feeling very supported in those positions.ā€

In order to be considered for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a medical degree (MD/DO) or physician assistant certificate (PA-C)
  • MDs/DOs must be board certified or board eligible in family medicine, general internal medicine, or general pediatrics
  • Be employed in a primary care practice as a primary care physician/PA for at least two years. Note: Residency does not count toward this requirement.
  • Fellows must work in the United States during the fellowship. This fellowship is ideally suited for those who live and work in North Carolina, but North Carolina residency is not a requirement, and all who meet above criteria are welcome to apply.
  • Individuals from rural practices and under-represented minorities in medicine are highly encouraged to apply.

The fellowship is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration.

The deadline to apply is January 10, 2022. Learn more and apply.
