Anthony Viera, MD, MPH, selected as editor-in-chief of The Journal of Family Practice

Anthony Viera, MD, MPH, Chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, has been named as the new editor-in-chief of The Journal of Family Practice. It’s one of the most widely circulated journals for family medicine doctors and other primary care clinicians. “I am honored to be granted this opportunity to serve the discipline in this way,” Viera said.

Under his leadership, evidence-based clinical review articles will continue to be the journal’s main focus. But Viera also aims to highlight other aspects of practicing medicine like quality improvement, population health, and health equity through new evidence and ideas. Additionally, he plans to diversify the pool of reviewers and authors.

“I am excited to be able to apply what I have learned over the years to help maintain the rigor, practicality, and relevance of JFP while simultaneously helping to nurture new authors and peer reviewers,” Viera said.

Viera began as editor-in-chief July 1. Read his inaugural editorial here.
