What is your hometown?
Queens, New York
What are your career goals?
I want to be a physician-educator, whether that means teaching patients or mentoring students. In the future, I hope to work at an academic medical center as teaching faculty, helping to plan curricula and guide learners (residents, medical students, college students, and other community members) toward their dreams.
What attracted you to the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program?
I was drawn to Duke's strong academic presence. The opportunity to get strong pediatrics and geriatrics training was another factor that led me to rank Duke first!
In your opinion, what makes Duke Family Medicine special?
Everyone always says the people, but we really do mean it! We really have some of the best preceptors who care about us in and out of the clinic. I truly feel like saying "I don't know," and asking questions is safe in our learning environment, which is rare in our country's hierarchical medical training system. My co-residents have been so supportive, and I can't wait to grow in my training with them.
What strengths or skills do you have that could be of benefit to the community?
I have a background in community service work from college, where I was a Bonner Scholar. I hope to bring meaningful, sustainable, mutually beneficial, community driven projects to Duke Family Medicine and Durham.
What are you passionate about?
Clinically, I really enjoy psychiatry and lifestyle medicine, in addition to geriatrics and pediatrics; I love that family medicine allows me to care for the entire age spectrum (geriatrics and pediatrics)! Outside of that, I love to mentor and teach, so working with students is always fun for me.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I love to cook (mostly to eat) and try new restaurants. I also love to travel and explore new places as much as I can; I have been to over 20 countries so far and my goal is to go to every continent! Everyone who knows me also knows I am a frequent Costco-goer.
What is something interesting that not many people know about you?
My mom is from China, and my dad is from Cuba; still working on my Spanish and Mandarin, though! I also played golf in college, and although I was not very good at it, I still enjoy playing when I can.
So far, what has surprised you most about Duke?
The cost of living! Coming from New York City, Durham has been a welcome change.
