The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health announced today the six medical students who will be joining the Family Medicine Residency Program in July as interns. All medical students in the country learned today — Match Day — which residency program they would be joining in the 2020-21 academic year.

Hunter Spotts, M.D., Named Medical Director of Student Health
Effective Dec. 5, 2019, Hunter Spotts, M.D., assumed the role of medical director of student health. He has been a provider at Duke Student Health since 2015 and served as Interim Medical Director beginning July 1, 2019. He succeeds Brian Halstater, M.D., who left the Student Health medical director role in 2019.
Meet Gregory Sawin, M.D., MPH
Welcome Gregory Sawin, M.D., MPH, as vice chair for education and faculty development in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. He joined the department on Jan. 1. Sawin earned his medical degree at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Ga., and he completed family medicine residency at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va. He later completed the Faculty Development Fellowship in the Department of Family Medicine at UVA and the National Institute for Program Director Development Fellowship. While at UVA, he also received a Master of Public Health with a focus in health care policy, law and ethics.

Jeffrey Bytomski Named Director of Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship
Effective Nov. 1, 2019, Jeffrey Bytomski, DO, professor of family medicine and community health, began serving as director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. He returns to the role of fellowship director—which he previously held from 2003 to 2010—after the departure of Tracy Ray, M.D., from the role earlier this year.
