Where were you practicing/working previous to Duke? What was your role there?

From June 2005 to present, my clinical experiences include hospital medicine, internal medicine, urgent care, and gastroenterology. In June 2013, I joined the physician assistant faculty at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. My teaching areas include cardiology, GI, women’s health, public health, and medical research. In 2016, I was appointed as the academic director for the program. My responsibilities included assessing, implementing, and regularly providing outcome data for the preclinical curriculum. Using evidence-based guidelines, I successfully integrated consistent interprofessional activities, high-fidelity simulation, and hybrid learning courses into the PA program. I also served as principal faculty for the PA/MPH dual degree program established in 2013.

What are your research interests?

My research interests include the substance misuse more specifically opioid addiction, patient safety, and diversity and inclusion.

Why did you choose to join Duke Family Medicine & Community Health?

The Duke University PA program’s reputation is certainly a strong factor in my decision to join this institution. Duke is the birthplace of the PA profession and has proven itself a leader and innovator in PA education. I am proud to join a team with such a long history of leadership in medicine and academia. Also, the culture of the program supports student-centered learning, inclusion, and faculty development. These factors are very important to me and align with my career goals.
