Meet Toxicologist Chester Rodriguez, Ph.D., DABT, ERT

Chester Rodriguez, Ph.D., DABT, ERT, joined the Duke Toxicology Program in November. He earned his MS in chemistry from San Francisco State University in 1999, and his doctorate in pharmacology and toxicology from UCLA in 2005.


Where were you working previous to Duke? What was your role there?

I was a Manager of Risk Assessment and Toxicology at the headquarters of the Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta. My primary responsibilities were aimed at ensuring that ingredients in beverages were safe and compliant in different parts of the world.

Any other educational or research background information you want to share?

I’m a certified toxicologist in the United States and the European Union. I spent over eight years with the U.S Environmental Protection Agency specializing in human health chemical risk assessment.

Why did you choose to join Duke Community & Family Medicine?

The name Duke is well-known and respected and I enjoy applying my skills to do consumer product safety evaluations.

I’m excited and eager to contribute to the Duke Toxicology Program in the Department of Community and Family Medicine.
