My entire professional career has been dedicated to the highest standards of leadership, teaching and learning. Prior to my career in medicine, I served as a Navy pilot, benefitting from world-class training and ultimately serving as an instructor pilot, passing my knowledge and experience to novice naval aviators as they started a technically challenging and inherently dangerous profession. I immensely enjoyed teaching and mentoring in that setting and it helped shape my philosophy and approach to professionally develop family medicine residents; as well as medical, PA, and Nurse Practitioner students. I teach as I have been taught – with patience, encouragement, high standards, and feedback. I believe that we have an inherent obligation to properly prepare the next generation of medical providers and serve as examples of professionalism, compassionate service, dedication, and adaptability in a rapidly changing world. I do my best to expand the knowledge base of the individual learner, but more importantly, I try to strengthen their basic fund of knowledge by providing real-world, clinically relevant experiences. My residency and subsequent career have been procedure-intensive, and I have a special interest in teaching outpatient orthopedic, dermatologic, and gynecologic clinic procedures to residents and students who rotate through our clinic.
