What are your career goals?

As a physician in training from an underrepresented background, my primary goal is to ensure that my patients feel safe and confident on their path to better health. Providing compassionate, personalized care is a goal I strive for every day. At Duke and beyond, I intend to continuously refine my practice to best serve my patients. Additionally, I aspire to be a mentor, leader, and researcher within the field.

What attracted you to the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program?

I am drawn to every aspect of this program: the inclusive culture, the supportive community, the diverse faculty, and the unparalleled educational opportunities it offers. My interview day left me enthusiastic and eager to learn from everyone I encountered. The opportunities here are endless; Duke goes above and beyond to tailor the program to individual interests and needs while shaping us into well-rounded clinicians. Duke strikes the perfect balance between evidence-based academic medicine and community-focused care.

In your opinion, what makes Duke Family Medicine special?

What truly sets this program apart is the people, the culture, and the collaborative learning environment. It is clear that Duke prioritizes the well-being and education of its residents. Duke Family Medicine is also deeply committed to serving the local community, particularly in disadvantaged and underserved areas. The impact this program has on both its patients and its residents is unmatched.

What strengths or skills do you have that could be of benefit to the community?

My experiences in both undergraduate and medical education have centered around volunteering with local organizations dedicated to serving medically underserved populations. One of my favorite experiences was working with a nonprofit organization that provided emergency funds and resources to the food desert in our area. I also worked with afterschool kids in low-income communities educating them about good skin health. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the barriers to proper healthcare and ignited my passion for medical education. I look forward to continuing to contribute to the community by helping those in need.

What are you passionate about?

Professionally, my interests include dermatology, sports medicine, obesity medicine, outpatient procedures, serving underserved populations, and increasing access to care.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

My hobbies include running, playing piano, soccer, and traveling. I also enjoy discovering new restaurants, relaxing at the beach, engaging in outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends.

If you have lived in the area for awhile, what is the best part of living in the Durham/Triangle area?

I enjoy spending time outdoors and exploring what North Carolina has to offer. Some of my favorite spots in Durham have so far been attending Durham Bulls baseball games, exploring local restaurants in the downtown area, and discovering local hiking spots.

What is something interesting that not many people know about you?

I was in a weight loss commercial for a nutritionist's office when I was a kid.

So far, what has surprised you most about Duke?

The campus is breathtaking, especially the Sarah P. Duke Gardens!
