Jeffrey Bytomski Named Director of Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship

Effective Nov. 1, 2019, Jeffrey Bytomski, DO, professor of family medicine and community health, began serving as director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. He returns to the role of fellowship director—which he previously held from 2003 to 2010—after the departure of Tracy Ray, M.D., from the role earlier this year.

Bytomski, who is board certified in both family medicine and sports medicine, has been on faculty with the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health for 17 years. He earned his DO from A.T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1998, graduated from family medicine residency at Phoenix Baptist Hospital in 2001, and completed Duke’s sports medicine fellowship in 2002.

Additional fellowship faculty include:

  • Anthony Ceraulo, DO, assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery, and Stephen Shaheen, M.D., assistant professor of surgery, are co-associate fellowship directors
  • Kenzie Johnston, M.D., medical instructor of family medicine and community health, is assistant director
  • Blake Boggess, DO, professor of family medicine and community health, is director of musculoskeletal ultrasound

The Duke Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship is a one-year program open to physicians who have completed residency training in the fields of family medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics, or internal medicine. The fellowship is housed within the sports division of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, which serves as the primary clinical site, and is ACGME-accredited through the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health.
