Why did you choose to join the faculty in the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health?

I was attracted to the Department of Family Medicine because of its focus on clinical and practice innovation. The department offers it all: outstanding clinical care, amazing academic opportunities, including research, and the opportunity to work with talented trainees.

Where were you working previous to Duke? What was your role there?

Prior to Duke, I was a primary care research fellow in the Department of Family Medicine at UNC. I was providing clinical care at the Family Medicine Center as well as on the inpatient Maternal and Child Health service. My research was focused on health care workforce and how it addresses health disparities.

What is your approach to mentorship/teaching?

It's a partnership, we both have something to learn and to teach. It starts with mutual respect and understanding. Communication is key!

What is your clinical focus and what types of patients will you be taking care of at Duke?

I enjoy taking care of patients of all ages and backgrounds. I have a particular interest in breastfeeding medicine, obstetrical care, and addiction medicine (medication assisted treatment).

What are your research interests?

My research interests are focused on health care workforce and how it can address health disparities.

Is there any other information you would like to share?

Outside of work, my husband and I spend our time chasing around our 4 young children, including identical twin boys born in January of this year.
