Sara Mazzarelli, MHS, PA-C, and Greg Sawin, M.D., MPH, Join Clinical Team at Duke Family Medicine Center

Duke Family Medicine Center will soon welcome new providers to the clinic. Sara Mazzarelli, MHS, PA-C, and Greg Sawin, M.D., MPH, have been caring for patients at Duke Family Medicine North Duke Street alongside Medical Director Brian Halstater M.D. They will all be based full-time at Duke Family Medicine Center, located at the Marshall I. Pickens Building, 2100 Erwin Road, beginning Jan. 4, 2021.

Duke Family Medicine North Duke Street will close permanently on Dec. 28.

Halstater is excited to bring new providers to the Duke Family Medicine Center, as they will develop additional clinical services.

“The North Duke Street team has been working on providing care to Duke Family Medicine patients with opioid use disorders, and Dr. Sawin and Ms. Mazzarelli will be piloting this at Pickens at the start of the new year,” Halstater says.

Mazarelli’s clinical interests include diabetes, chronic disease management, adolescent medicine, mental health, LGBT health, and health equity. She joined the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health in the spring of 2019 and is a 2013 graduate of the Duke Physician Assistant Program.

Sawin provides full-spectrum primary care, including women's and reproductive health and gender-affirming care. He joined the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health in January 2020 as vice chair for education and faculty development.

Halstater, who had been splitting time between both family medicine clinics, has been medical director of family medicine since January 2019 and faculty in the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health since 2004.

Lorraine Sease, M.D., MSPH—who has been a provider with Duke Family Medicine since 2007, served as medical director, and most recently cared for patients at Duke Family Medicine North Duke Street—will be joining the clinical team at Duke Primary Care Croasdaile in mid-January. Halstater and the Duke Family Medicine team thank her for her time and dedication to her family medicine patients over the years, her work as a faculty member with the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program, and wish her well in her new practice.
