Meet Joshua Ward, M.D.

Joshua Ward, M.D., joined the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health in 2019 as adjunct faculty and a hospitalist at Duke Regional Hospital. Ward graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in 2013 and completed residency at Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency.


Where were you practicing/working previous to Duke? What was your role there?

St. Anthony Hospital, Lakewood, CO (2016-2018), Hospitalist.

Why did you choose to join Duke Family Medicine & Community Health?

For the opportunity to work with my amazing colleagues to be a part of training the next generation of family medicine physicians.

What is your clinical focus/what types of patients will you be taking care of at Duke? At what clinic/locations will you be working?

I am a hospitalist and hospital medicine attending for our family medicine residents. I also work with Duke medical students and PA students. My clinical focus is adult inpatient medicine and only take care of patients admitted to Duke Regional Hospital.

What is your approach to clinical care?

I aim to have a very patient-centered and evidence-based approach to caring for my patients.

Are there any major clinical care initiatives you have been a part of or are currently working on?

I worked on designing/coordinating the inpatient elective rotation for our FM residents and creating our new inpatient program that started in at DRH July 2020.
