What are your career goals?

To be an outstanding family medicine physician who is ingrained in the community. To increase health equity, health literacy, and become a better advocate for my patient population. I am particularly interested in adolescent medicine, women's health, and preventative medicine.

What attracted you to the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program?

I am attracted to Duke's Family Medicine Residency Program because of its impact in the community, involvement in social justice, and commitment to population health. Duke is committed to the diversity of its faculty, residents, and patients. Additionally, they are open to change for the betterment of the community. This foundation is crucial to me because it will allow me to be a better advocate and serve the community. Additionally, there are plenty of opportunities to use my skills to aid in the mission of Duke.

In your opinion, what makes Duke Family Medicine special?

When I first met the faculty and residents, I automatically felt at home. Since this is my first time away from home, this was very important to me.

What strengths or skills do you have that could be of benefit to the community?

With my experiences in education and politics, I have a specialized body of knowledge that allows me to be a great advocate for the community. I have the ability to see where problems exist and find ways to solve them. I have learned that the community-centered approach is key to increasing health equity outcomes in the community.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about advocating on behalf of the undeserved and wanting to build trust between minority patients and physicians to increase minority patients’ comfort within the healthcare field. I am also love activism, social justice, and equity. I am excited to begin to travel more often.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

My hobbies are listening to jazz, spoken-word, stand-up comedy, and watching movies. I am known among my peers for having game nights. During the summer, I enjoy festivals and being outdoors. I love spending time with family and friends, making candles, and working with Right Connections (a community focused organization-based in St. Louis).

What is something interesting that not many people know about you?

I have an identical twin sister (Yes, we used to switch classes in undergrad!). I also starred in several theatrical plays in St. Louis and even helped produce one.

So far, what has surprised you most about Duke?

Everyone is very down to earth! I am also surprised by the rich cultural history of Durham.
