What are your career goals?
My career goals are to provide the highest standard of care to my patients through evidence based medicine, with a focus on prevention and addressing the social determinants of health as a way to optimize my patients' health and well-being. I have a special interest in postpartum care and breastfeeding medicine, and my goal is for my patients and their families to feel well-informed, supported, and cared for as they welcome a new family member. I also plan to contribute to clinical research, specifically with the goal of identifying and addressing ways of improving clinical outcomes in the realm of maternal and child health.
What attracted you to the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program?
I was first attracted to the genuine passion each attending physician and resident I spoke to had towards their particular interests in medicine. I was invigorated by their desire to advocate for and make meaningful differences in the health of our community. Additionally, the program truly makes sure its residents consistently feel cared for, valued, and respected as humans and physicians.
In your opinion, what makes Duke Family Medicine special?
There are many aspects of the program that I find unique and special. One of those is that Duke Family Medicine strives to bring together residents from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, and I really value and appreciate being able to learn from my co-residents and their different perspectives.
What strengths or skills do you have that could be of benefit to the community?
In the past few years, I have served two leadership roles in providing health education to unhoused individuals and immigrant populations both in Cincinnati, Ohio and in the DC area. These experiences have taught me invaluable lessons in the role of patient education in empowering patients to advocate for and take charge of their own health.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate in women's health, maternal and child health, preventative health, and caring for underserved marginalized populations.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
My hobbies outside of work include painting, cross-stitching (basically any arts and crafts), reading, and hiking. I'm always open to hearing great book recommendations!
What is something interesting that not many people know about you?
I played the violin both in solo performances and within an orchestra for about a decade!
