Mark D. Ihrie, PhD, joined the Duke Toxicology Program in May 2023. Dr. Ihrie previously worked as a postdoctoral associate in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine in Duke’s Department of Medicine. In that role he studied how obesity impacts asthma pathobiology, focusing on the role leptin plays in airway fibrosis. Previously, while completing his PhD, Dr. Ihrie worked in nanotoxicology research, examining how pulmonary exposure to multi-walled carbon nanotubes affects asthma. 

Dr. Ihrie received his BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He then completed his PhD in Toxicology, concentrating in molecular and cellular toxicology, at North Carolina State University.
