Jeffrey C. Eschbach, M.D., joined the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health in 2019 as an adjunct faculty member, hospitalist and director of the Family Medicine Inpatient Service at Duke Regional Hospital. Eschbach graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1989 and completed family medicine residency at Naval Hospital Family Medicine Residency in 1992. He also completed a fellowship in hospital medicine.
Where were you practicing/working previous to Duke? What was your role there?
I worked previously at the Naval Hospital, Guam, in the White House Medical Unit as a White House Physician, at Ohio State University as faculty and a family medicine physician, at MidMichigan Medical Center as faculty and hospital medicine program director, and at Baptist South Medical Center, Jacksonville, Florida, as a hospitalist.
What is your approach to clinical care?
I strive to care for each patient as if they were a member of my own family. I enjoy the diversity of patients that I am fortunate to encounter daily in the hospital. I hope to place patients at ease during this difficult time. My strengths are my compassionate, gentle approach to patients and willingness to listen. I particularly enjoy geriatric patients and helping them with the many health care issues that they encounter.
Are there any major clinical care initiatives you have been a part of or are currently working on?
I helped begin the new Family Medicine Inpatient Service for the family medicine residents at Duke Regional Hospital, and also oversee a new Hospital Medicine Fellowship at DRH.
