Division of Community Health Welcomes Fellows to Benefits Enrollment Center

The Division of Community Health's Benefits Enrollment Center (BEC) recently launched the Benefits Enrollment Center Fellows Program, a program for Duke University undergraduate and graduate students to join the BEC outreach team, increase awareness of resources, and expand outreach to Durham’s aging population, including those who are homebound.

Fellows for the 2018-19 academic year are:

  • Sandra Au, Duke medical student, first year

  • Sarah Beaverson, PathWays Fellow

  • Peter Callejo-Black, Duke medical student, third year

  • Spencer Flynn, Duke undergrad, senior
  • Ian Jaffe, Duke undergrad, senior

  • Lauren Willis, Duke undergrad, sophomore
  • Willis Wong, Duke medical student, first year

The BEC Fellows Program is an opportunity for students interested in community health, the social determinants of health, and volunteering with underserved populations to engage directly with community members, allowing them to gain firsthand knowledge and experiences that supplement their classroom education.

The Benefits Enrollment Center provides assistance to Medicare beneficiaries interested in applying for additional benefits, and is located at the Duke Division of Community Health in the Department of Community and Family Medicine. Areas of coverage include Durham, Granville, and Person counties.
